On Sunday 29th November 2009 in Warsaw at the Kultura cinema the best films of the ART of the DOCUMENT festival were announced.
The jury members: Anne Baumann(France, TV ARTE), Paweł Felis (Poland, Gazeta Wyborcza), Tomáš Hučko (Slovakia, VSMU), Dmitrij Kabakow (Russia, VGIK), Iwona Kurz (Poland, IKP UW), Katarzyna Malinowska (Poland, TVP Kultura) i Magdalena Malińska (Poland, Res Publica) have unanimously decided that:
- The Grand Prix of the Art of the Document Festival goes to Harun Farocki and Andrei Ujica for their film “Videogramme einer Revolution” (prod. Ulrich Strohle, Germany, 1992, 106’).
For their insightful picture of the revolution and their cinematic reflection on the role of the camera in historical events.
- The 1st Prize of the Future of Media goes to “Min Mammas Grad” Ilse Burkovska Jacobsen and Trand Jacobsen (Latvia, 2008, 55’).
For showing the power and the powerlessness of the individual in his clash with history.
- The 2nd Prize of the Future of Media goes to Andrzej Fidyk and Marek Łochwicki for the film “Ostatki” (Video Studio Gdańsk, Poland, 1990, 45’).
For the exceptional observation skills and ironic view on the moment of change.
- The Special Mention of the Jury goes to M-J Blochwitz and A. Czekalski for the film “Grenzdurchbruch” (prod. NVA Army Film Studio, Germany, 1989, 38’).
For capturing the very moment when the walls tumble down and minds open up.
- The Audience Award goes to “Min Mammas Grad” Ilse Burkovska Jacobsen and Trand Jacobsen (Latvia, 2008, 55’).

The preparations for this year’s edition of the Multimedia Festival THE ART OF THE DOCUMENT 2009 at Royal Route in Warsaw are in full swing.
This year’s event will be held on 17-30 November in four Warsaw’s venues: The Kultura cinema, the Rejs cinema, the Dom Spotkań z Historią [History Meeting House] and Klub Kamieniołomy [The Kamieniołomy Club] at Krakowskie Przedmieście.
This year’s edition of the Art of the Document the Festival is entitled ‘The Year 1989 in Europe. Image-Memory-Record’.
Our aim is to commemorate the breakthrough events of 1989, to show the system changes in a wide perspective of politics, arts as well as everyday life of the inhabitants of Central and Eastern Europe.
The Art of the Document Festival ‘The Year 1989 in Europe’ features screenings of Polish and foreign documentary films in Warsaw and other cities across Poland.
The Art of the Document Festival ‘The Year 1989 in Europe’ involves also a cycle of cultural events: discussions with the artists, witnesses and participants of the historical events, experts, an open air photo exhibition and an international scientific conference on the role of the media in the turning point events of 1989 at the Warsaw University Library.
The whole festival will close with a ceremony during which we will grant prizes and which will be held at the Kultura cinema on 30 November.
As was the case with the previous editions of the festival, this year the admission to all the screenings is free of charge.

"The Year 1989 in Europe"
Warsaw, 19-20 Nov 2009
We will be receiving applications until 31th July 2009. Applications should include the subject of the speech, a short summary (500-1000 characters), a list of technical requirements and information about the author. The languages of the conference will be Polish and English. It is possible to make the speech also in other languages, as long as the text is delivered earlier in English. Speeches are for 20 minutes. Participation at the conference is not paid. To those interested, we offer help in arranging accomodation in Warsaw.

The organisers reserve the right to select speakers from the submitted applications. We plan to publish a post-conference volume.
The conference accompanies the THE ART OF THE DOCUMENT multimedia festival, which takes place along the Warsaw Royal Route from 17-30.11.2009.

The Art of the Document Festival announces a call for applications!!! »»
We are waiting for both documentary and feature films touching upon subjects associated with communism in Poland and Central Eastern Europe. We are particularly interested in films devoted to events such as:
- movements of Solidarność,
- imposition of the Martial Law debates and the inside story of the Round Table – the breakthrough moment for Poland and the neighboring countries, that is year 1989, the first free election in Poland,
- the fall of the Berlin Wall The Autumn of Nations in Eastern Europe - events in Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria.
We invite you to submit films shot recently, after 1989, as well as those from the era of communism.
